THE PROJECT

A visual workspace for editing an on-screen gamepad.

PlayPad Editor is a browser-based tool for creating and editing RetroArch on-screen gamepads. It gives a direct GUI to a configuration that otherwise spans images and text files.

My contribution

SCOPE OF WORK
  1. Visual editing

Giving an on-screen gamepad configuration a direct graphical interface.

  2. Configuration workflow

Making a set of images and text settings easier to understand and revise.

  3. Focused problem-solving

Building a small tool around a workflow that did not have a satisfying existing editor.

DESIGN & INTENT

See the configuration while you change it

On-screen gamepads are more than a text configuration: their layout has to be seen and adjusted as an interface. PlayPad Editor makes that relationship immediate, giving the configuration a visual working surface instead of leaving it spread across files.

BUILD & CONTEXT

A companion tool with its own value

The project sits alongside PlayCase, but it also stands as an example of a useful small application. A focused problem deserved a focused interface, and the result makes creating and revising RetroArch gamepads more direct.
