THE PROJECT

Turning a fan’s movement into an interactive experience.

I designed and developed an interactive installation for the 2016 U.S. Open using Microsoft Kinect and C#. The experience brought motion tracking and responsive visuals into a live event setting, connecting hardware, software, and game design.

My contribution

SCOPE OF WORK
  1. Motion tracking

Using Microsoft Kinect to make a participant’s movement part of the interaction.

  2. Application development

Building the installation in C# and connecting the hardware to responsive visuals.

  3. Event experience

Bringing interaction and game design into USTA’s fan-facing event environment.

DESIGN & INTENT

Movement as the input

Motion tracking gives the participant a physical way to engage with a digital experience. The installation responds through visuals, making the relationship between movement and feedback central to the interaction. The video shows the experience in use.

BUILD & CONTEXT

Building for a real event

The project was developed from the ground up, bringing its hardware and software into one experience. It formed part of my broader work on USTA’s 2016 U.S. Open booth presence, which also included app and game development, web work, booth design, and implementation.
